POLICE report that at about 17:30 hrs on Thursday, November 22,  a man whose only name was given as Richard, from Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara was hacked to death when his girlfriend’s ex-reputed husband entered their home at Bonasika, East Bank Essequibo, and attacked the couple while they were in bed. Chopped multiple times to the body and head, and also suffering a severed wrist, Richard was pronounced dead on arrival at the Leonora Diagnostic Centre, West Coast Demerara.

The girlfriend, Ms Joan Myers, 27, had met Richard when she had left her reputed husband, Davindra Persaud, 34, because of domestic abuse, and had gone to stay at relatives at Mahaicony. She and Richard struck a relationship, and Richard moved to Bonasika, East Bank Essequibo, about a month ago to live with Meyers at her father’s house in the riverine community.

Persaud allegedly entered the house in which the couple was residing through an unlocked rear door, and hacked Richard to death. Meyers, a mother of five, also received multiple wounds about the body, including a severed wrist, and is presently recuperating after surgery performed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where her condition is listed as critical but stable up to press time.

Persaud managed to escape after the vicious onslaught, while Richard is dead and Meyers is in critical condition in hospital.
