OFFICIALS of both APNU and the AFC have reportedly confirmed their acceptance of an invitation to meet with a government team today at Office of the President to discuss the 2013 Budget.
According to a report on the online ‘Inews’ website, the opposition has insisted that only after their views and suggestions are included will they support the passage of the 2013 budget. “If there is no support for the 2013 budget it will mean that elections will have to be held after April 30, 2013 as there will be no money to operate and run the government,” the news report stated.
The 2012 budget was chopped by the Opposition due to its claims of lack of consultation. However, the government insisted that opportunities had been provided for consultation and inputs.
Areas that were chopped by the opposition included Amerindian Development, ICT and Hydro Power, for which they faced tremendous criticisms.
