Hemraj powers President’s XI past Rest side

THANKS to a robust and unbeaten half-century from Chandrapaul Hemraj, an Everest Cricket Club President’s XI disposed of a Rest XI by 58 runs at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) ground, Camp Road, on Sunday.

altThe two sides met in a specially arranged T20 affair to celebrate the 40th birth anniversary of the club’s president Rajesh Singh and, asked to bat first, the victorious President’s XI scored an imposing 185 for 3 from their 20 overs, with Hemraj, who played two first class matches this year for Guyana, hitting five fours and a similar number of sixes in his unbeaten 80.
He added 83 for the second wicket with his skipper Troy Gonsalves who made 55 that was decorated with three fours and three sixes, after Rajiv Ivan, who took 3 for 19, had Rishi Hiralall 11 (1×4) caught at extra cover in his first over.
Adrian Singh replaced Gonsalves who was also removed by Ivan and, together with Hemraj, added 69 for the third wicket before Singh who made 15 with one four, was dismissed.
When the Rest XI batted, they struggled for runs and despite Steve Ramdass’ 36 (2×4), Khemraj Ramdeen 23 (5×4), Ryan Ramdass 18 (1×6) and Ryan Dhanraj contributing 16 (1×6) they were limited to 127 for 7 when their overs expired, thanks to the bowling of Paul Parsram who took 2 for 12.
At the brief presentation ceremony that followed, the ECC president thanked the members who came out and show their support by participating in the contest, while Hemraj and Ivan received trophies after they were named Best Batsman and Best Bowler respectively. Gonsalves picked up the winners’ trophy.
