ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY students of the University of Guyana (UG) will graduate this evening, with diplomas and degrees in various disciplines, at the 11th Annual Convocation Exercise on the lawns of its Tain, Corentyne, Berbice campus.
A press release said the graduates are coming from four faculties/schools, spread over 13 programmes, adorned in their fineries, special gowns and faculty/school insignias for the eventful occasion.
The Faculty of Agriculture, with one degree programme, is sending two students to the dais to receive their individual achievements while the Faculty of Natural Sciences will be graduating 43 students in four disciplines.
Particularly, 22 students are graduating with Associate Degrees in Biology, three with Associate Degrees in Chemistry, four with Associate Degrees in Mathematics and 14 with diplomas in Computer Science.
According to the release, 80 students are also graduating from the Faculty of Social Sciences. More specifically, 18 with Degrees in Public Management; 20 with Diplomas in Public Management; 13 with Diplomas in Marketing; 14 with Diplomas in Accountancy and 15 with Diplomas in Social Work.
In addition, the Faculty of Education and Humanities is graduating a total of 103 students in four disciplines; five with Associate Degrees in English; three with Bachelor of Education (Administration), 21 with the Bachelor of Education (Primary); seven with the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood); five with the Bachelor of Education (Social Studies); seven with the Bachelor of Education (Mathematics); 14 with Certificates in Education (Administration); 27 with Certificates in Education (Primary); 11 with Certificates of Education (Early Childhood) and three with Certificates of Education (Social Studies).
The release stated, further, that in keeping with university tradition, the convocation will be presided over by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Prem Misir, while the official proceedings, including the granting of certificates, diplomas and degrees, will be overseen by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Marlene Cox; Registrar, Mr. Vincent Alexander; Deans and Coordinators of the various academic programmes at the Berbice Campus.
Guest Speaker for this evening’s proceedings is Mr. Clive Lloyd,the most successful captain of the West Indies cricket team and present Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Guyana Cricket Board.
The UG Berbice Campus graduation exercise follows that of the Turkeyen Campus, which was held last Saturday evening. At that event, 1,480 students graduated in various disciplines and the feature address was delivered by President Donald Ramotar.
