Amerindian dishes at xmas market

AMERINDIANS  of St. Cuthbert’s Mission are expected to add a new touch to food fairs  when they bring a wide variety of indigenous dishes and arts  to the East Bank Demerara Christmas Market to be held at Craig Government school on December 18 next.

Their tempting fare will include wild meat, tassou, salted fresh-water fish, cassiri and balalou, cassava bread, takamoa (an edible oil taken from the heart-of-palm) and pepper pot fish.
The residents of St. Cuthbert’s Mission will also show off intricate pieces of their handiwork.
The Christmas Market, which starts at 10am, will also feature other Guyanese dishes for the season.

Chin named Production Manager

DR. Leslie Chin has been appointed production manager of Booker-BDH. His appointment took effect from November 1 last.
Dr. Chin joined the staff of Booker-BDH  a year ago, after being Manager of the Government Milk Pasteurization Plant at Kingston.
He has succeeded Mr. Charles Henry, who retired last month after 39 years with Bookers.
Dr. Chin, who was educated at the University of Aberdeen, the National Institute of Medical Research, and London University, has worked in the Government Analyst Department  as a Scientific Officer, and has been a part-time lecturer at the University of Guyana.(Clifford Stanley can be reached to discuss any of the foregoing articles at cliffantony@gmail.com or cell phone # 657 2043)
