Police also getting information about cop killing – Crime Chief

POLICE Crime Chief Seelall Persaud disclosed yesterday that following the hijacking/robbery of taxi driver Jermaine Rover last week, suspects in custody have offered evidence about the execution-style killing of policeman, Jirbahan Dianand.

altThe Deputy Commissioner (Law Enforcement) said two men were apprehended and remain in detention pending investigations and an unlicensed gun has since been recovered by sleuths acting on information received.
Police recalled that, about 07:00 hrs on November 13, ranks in Berbice found a .38 snub nose ‘Rossi’ revolver in a yard at Lot 45 Rampoor, Corriverton, Corentyne and two other men were held after that discovery.
On November 11 three men posing as passengers had attacked Rover, 21, of Number 78 Village, after hiring him to take them to Moleson Creek, Corentyne, too. On arrival at their destination, one of the trio shot him to his face and right hand and relieved him of his vehicle, HB 3123, in which they escaped.
Rover was taken to New Amsterdam Hospital where he is still a patient and the car was, subsequently, found abandoned at Plantation Foulis, West Coast Berbice.
Meanwhile, several more persons were held but no one was charged for the murder of Detective Constable Dianand, whose body was found in his car, on September 14, on a desolate Corentyne road.
The narcotics detective, who was known for making drug busts in Berbice, was executed with two bullets to the head and a post-mortem, performed by Government Pathologist, Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan, verified the cause of death as gunshot injuries.
Dianand’s body was found in his motor car, PHH 6528, on the Jackson Creek Public Road, Corentyne by passersby.
Crime Chief Persaud had, initially said Dianand was killed by someone known to him because he suffered two gunshots.
He posited that Dianand was not driving at the time and the shooter seemed to be shooting from inside the car, as against outside.
The top Police officer pointed out that the windows of the vehicle were wound up and the windscreen was not damaged, indicating that the assailant was within the car. Two warheads were recovered but no spent shells.
Dianand, 23, was stationed at Moleson Creek Police Outpost and attached to the Narcotics Branch.
