Synthetic track works moving apace

THE media was yesterday taken on a tour of  the construction site in Leonora of what will be Guyana’s first Synthetic track by the man in charge of the works, Deputy Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steve Ninvalle.
In keeping with the promise of updating the media every two months Ninvalle said, “You must be on the ground and be able to see exactly what is going on, you must be able to say, do I see any

development, do I see any progress fromaltwhen I first came to now. That is why we have kept this promise, that maybe every two months we will have the media here so when you take it to the public you will be writing on first-hand information.”
Ninvalle, along with the engineer, Patrick Pitt, Director of Design and Construction Services Limited, was on site and gave an update of the site’s works. There have been quite a lot of improvements since the two briefed the media in early September and according to Pitt, the track is expected to be completed next year.
Progress on the facility is currently in Phase two and the track should be laid by mid-2013 by Regupol.
Pitt told the media during the interview on the track, “What you could see here right now is the loam surface which has to be completed and then we will put on some crusher run, six inches of crusher run and after that crusher run we will add two layers of asphalted concrete.”
He continued, “The first will be a different mixed layer from the second layer which would be a collective coarse, after that is completed it will be bled and left it for maybe a month or more depending on the weather and then we will have Regupol come and inspect and then they will say when they will install the track”.
In the last two months the sub surface drainage was laid then some sand and stone were laid and at present works are being carried out on the external surface drain which means in about two months the drainage system is expected to be completed.
Meanwhile, soon to be completed is the football field which currently only has pete mark to be laid before the planting of the Bermuda grass.
