KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Jamaica’s football boss, Captain Horace Burrell says his country’s road to the 2014 World Cup will be a tough one, after the Reggae Boyz drew giants Mexico in the opening series of matches in the CONCACAF World Cup final round qualifiers.

Jamaica, the only English-speaking Caribbean country among the final six, are expected to travel to Mexico’s Azteca Stadium on February 6 next year, as they launch their campaign to reach Brazil 2014.
“There will be no easy game … every one of the 10 games is going to be tough, so it’s pointless to worry about who you play and when,” the Jamaica Observer quoted Burrell as saying.
“What we have to do is ensure that we are prepared to play every single game like it’s your last game.”
Jamaica will follow up their Mexico trip with a clash by hosting Panama on March 22 before travelling to San Jose four days later to face Costa Rica.
They will also face home-and-away fixtures against Honduras and United States in a final round that runs until October 15.
The top three teams will advance to the 2014 FIFA World Cup with the fourth-place team entering an intercontinental playoff in November against the first place team from the Oceania Football Confederation.
Burrell, who attended Wednesday’s draw in Miami, said facing ‘El Tricolor’ in their difficult conditions would prove a huge test of Jamaica’s mettle.
“I am satisfied with the draw that we got. My view is that playing away to Mexico early, which is the most difficult team we will have to face with the high altitude and with over 100 000 fans to contend with in the Azteca, will be a true early test of our depth as a team,” he said.
“We finish at home against Honduras and as is often the case, the World Cup argument is settled with the last game of the qualifying tournament, so this fixture could be decisive one way or another.”
Jamaica are vying to reach their second World Cup finals after their initial success 14 years ago.
