RHTYSC Busta ‘Champion of Champions’ : Defending champions take on Albion in final this Sunday

EIGHT-time defending champions Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets (RHTGG) will face their nemesis Albion Cricket Club this Sunday at the Area ‘H’ ground, in the final this year in the ninth annual Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club-organised Busta ‘Champion of Champions’ tournament. The longstanding rivalry between these two teams has brought cricket fans in the Ancient County to the venue whenever they clash, irrespective of the status of the matchup and come Sunday, it should be

no different as the home team seek to achieve their eighth title while Albion will be looking to score an upset.
Picking a winner in this contest is a difficult task, as both teams have strong and reliable players who can fill the gap when their key players, in this case Narsingh Deonarine, Veerasammy Permaul and Assad Fudadin, are missing for one reason or another.

So far this year, RHTGG lost the 2011 Berbice Cricket Board/Tenelec final to Albion, even though they dismissed their opponents for a paltry 126 in the 50 overs-a-side contest, while they rebounded to inflict a six-wicket defeat on the same opponents three weeks ago, in this year’s version of the said tournament.
With that in mind and based on their present form, the advantage for Sunday’s final will weigh heavily in the defending champions’ favour, a side who have never lost at home this year at the first division level of cricket in the Ancient County.
Even without Fudadin, who is in Bangladesh with the West Indies team, the defending champions’ batting lineup is still a strong one, since batsmen of the calibre of Delbert Hicks, Renwick Batson, Jason Sinclair, Dominique Rikhi, Rajiv Ivan, Eon Hooper, Royston Crandon and Clinton Pestano are still around.
Their bowling would be spearheaded by medium pacers Pestano and Batson with support from off-spinners Crandon, Rikhi, Lloydel Lewis, Shailendra Shameer, Ivan, Hooper and leg-spinner Shawn Pereira, who would lead the team in Fudadin’s absence.
Albion have had a mixed season this year and without the services of both Deonarine and Permaul, they would need to lift their game as high as possible, if they intend to get past a confident RHTGG lineup, who would definitely be looking to leave no stone unturned, in their bid to retain their title.
Albion’s batting will centre on discarded West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Andy Mohan, the hard-hitting Jonathan Foo, the in-form Bishoo, who hit a century last weekend and the promising Sharaz Ramcharran.
They would also be hoping that youth players like Motie-Kanhai, Balchan Baldeo, Permaul and David Latchaya come to the party with some crucial runs on Sunday, for their spin-based bowling attack, which will be led by discarded West Indies leg-spinner Bishoo, with support from Chattergoon, Ramcharran, Permaul and the impressive left-arm spinner Motie-Kanhai, to defend.
General Manager of the Guyana Beverage Company Robert Selman and Marketing Manager Shamiza Yadram would meet the teams before the game which would be broadcast ball by ball on NCN Radio.
The winning team would receive $100 000 and a trophy, the runners-up $50 000 and the Man-of-the-Final, $10 000 and a trophy, with the umpires being brothers Imran and Zaheer Moakan – two of the best umpires in the Ancient County – with Shawn Cunja being the standby.
Teams for this contest will be chosen from:  RHTGG:  Renwick Batson, Dominique Rikhi, Jason Sinclair, Rajiv Ivan, Delbert Hicks, Royston Crandon, Eon Hooper, Clinton Pestano, Shawn Pereira, Lloydel Lewis, Shailendra Shameer, Askay Homraj and Arif Chan. Manager is Patrick Lewis and the coach is Michael Hyles Franco.
Albion: Sewnarine Chattergoon, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Sharaz Ramcharran, Jonathan Foo, Veerapen Permaul, Devendra Bishoo, Satesh Dwarka, Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, David Latchaya, Andy Mohan, S. Srikissoon, Balchan Baldeo and Lachman Bishram. Manager: M. Permaul.
