QUINCY Campbell (no address given) appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged with unlawful assault. He pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which stated that, on November 4, he unlawfully assaulted Shawnel Rodrigues.
Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick, prosecuting, said the defendant and the virtual complainant were involved in a relationship that ended recently and, on the day in question, they had a misunderstanding and Campbell dealt Rodrigues several slaps to her face.
The prosecutor said the woman became fearful for her well-being and reported the incident.
The defendant told the court that his girlfriend was at his home and they were discussing a problem they had when she became annoyed and threw down his phone causing it to be damaged and, in a rage, he slapped her.
The magistrate ordered that the couple seek counselling and report back to the court on November 30.
Meanwhile, they were released on their own recognisances.
