Guadeloupe win creates tight race in Group 7

LES ABYMES, Guadeloupe (CMC) –  Guadeloupe reinstalled themselves as contenders with the Dominican Republic and Martinique for a place in the Caribbean Cup Finals after a comfortable 4-1 victory over Puerto Rico, Thursday night. Dominique Mocka scored twice in 26 minutes to inspire the revival as Guadeloupe moved into third place in Group 7 with three points, one behind the Dominicans and Martinique.
Loic Loval-Landre opened the scoring for the hosts in the eighth minute and Mocka added goals in the 11th and 26th minutes to help end a six-match losing streak.
Vladimir Pascal converted Guadeloupe’s final goal in the 69th minute before Hector Ramos scored his second goal in as many games — and for the fourth time in five games — for Puerto Rico in the 83rd.
Puerto Rico, who lost their third straight game, remained with no points and were eliminated.
In the early match, the Dominican Republic and Martinique battled to a one-all score line.
Domingo Peralta gave the Dominican Republic the lead in the 45th minute and Gael Germany equalised in the 71st.
The result extended the Dominicans’ unbeaten run to eight games, while Martinique have not lost in six matches.
