IN observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Ministry of Health held a vigil on Thursday under the theme “Protecting our Women-preventing and fighting Breast Cancer”. This observance saw Members of Parliament Deborah Backer, Rev. Kwame Gilbert, Dr. George Norton and Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, members of several organisations, the Georgetown Nursing School and Health Ministry indicating their support for women with breast cancer.

It is one of the leading causes of death among women in Guyana and around the world and, government has been making great strides in improving health services and making available the necessary facilities available to fight this deadly disease.
Minister of Health Dr. Bheri Ramsaran took the opportunity to inform persons that cervical cancer has also caught the Ministry’s attention, because of the tone it has taken internationally, and the Ministry has numerous programmes to address this illness. (GINA)
