MINISTER of Local Government and Regional Development, Mr. Ganga Persaud, has warned that money allocated to Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs) and Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) for development, will be taken back on December 31, if not spent. He made the announcement while addressing councillors of the Anna Regina Interim Management Committee (IMC) at the start of a training programme in the Town Hall, on the Essequibo Coast, last Friday.
Persaud said some NDCs are not spending their subventions from government. However, in Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), he is satisfied with the amount of work being done by the RDCs under the capital programme.
The minister called on councillors at the RDC, NDC and Town Council levels to push their programmes and ensure that all projects are completed by year-end.
Persaud challenged councillors to have the interest of residents at heart and find solutions to various problems within their respective local authorities and the region as a whole.
