Health Ministry to host Cancer Awareness Vigil : – outside Parliament Building this evening

THE Ministry of Health will, this evening, continue its observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2012 under the theme ‘Protecting Our Women, Preventing and Fighting Breast Cancer’, with a ‘Remembrance and Awareness  Vigil’ outside Parliament Building on Brickdam, Georgetown. Cancer remains the third leading cause of death in Guyana with Breast Cancer as the most prevalent.
The Ministry of Health, in an advisory for today’s event, said it remains relentless in its effort to continuously educate and raise awareness about the disease, with particular emphasis on prevention and early detection.
The ministry noted that substantial progress has been made in relation to treatment and care of patients.
“Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are readily available and accessible in the public health sector and environment for surgical interventions continue to see dramatic improvements,” the ministry stated.
The ministry said this evening’s vigil is a further step in its campaign aimed at raising awareness about Breast Cancer, thereby increasing the chances of early detection and decreasing the fatality rate.
