2012 BCB/DF & GI Under-19 Inter-zone : Lower Corentyne and New Amsterdam/Canje to clash for title tomorrow

THE CUMBERLAND Cricket Club ground in Canje will tomorrow and Friday come alive with activity, when defending champions Lower Corentyne take on their arch rivals New Amsterdam/Canje in the final of this year’s Berbice Cricket Board/Diamond Fire and General Insurance Company Under-19 Inter-zone competition. Lower Corentyne would be determined to win this competition and thwart the hosts, who have already won the BCB Under-15 and Under-17 Inter-zone titles for 2012, from making it a hat-trick of victories at the youth level in the Ancient County.
Lower Corentyne would be led by national Under-19 captain Shawn Pereira and he would be supported by fellow national player Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, Sharaz Ramcharran, Arif Chan, Shailendra Shameer, Nicholas Cameron, David Latchaya and Devin Baldeo.
On the other side of the coin, lie a determined looking New Amsterdam/Canje team who would be spearheaded by national Under-19 player Shimron Hetmyer, Leon Andrews, Hakeem Hinds, Romario Shepherd, Kassim Khan and Nial Smith.
Meanwhile at the Skeldon Community Centre ground, Upper Corentyne and West Berbice would battle for third place during the same period.
The exciting Parmanand Narine, Deon Esau, Viendra Gooniah, Askay Homraj and Kamesh Sugrim would be the crucial players for Upper Corentyne against Grisean Grant, Parmanand Ramdhan, Quacy McPherson, Nick Ramsaroop, Derick Narine-Lalsa Jr and Kevon Jawahir who will be representing West Berbice.
The winning team would receive $60 000 and a trophy, the runners-up $35 000, third-placers $25 000 and the fourth-placed team $15 000.
Representatives of both the sponsor and Berbice Cricket Board would meet the teams before the start of play and assist with the distribution of prizes won after the match, which is expected to get under way at 09:00hrs daily and will also have a first-innings cut-off point at the end of 65 overs.
