AFTER a nine-week recess the 10th Parliament of Guyana will resume today for the 29th sitting of the National Assembly.
Among the papers and reports that will be presented is the Report of the Auditor General on the Public Accounts of Guyana and on the Accounts of Ministries, Departments and Regions for the year ended December 31, 2011. This will be presented by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Raphael Trotman, who will also present reports of the Women and Gender Equality Commission and the Indigenous Peoples’ Commission.
The Speaker will also present the Minutes of Proceedings of the first and second meeting of the Committee of Selection.
Prime Minister and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Sam Hinds is expected to present the audited financial statements of the Public Utilities Commission for the decade December 31st, 2000 to 2010.
In addition, Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh will present the Mid-Year Report for 2012 and the audited Financial Statements of the Linden Mining Enterprise Limited for the period 9th December, 2004 to 31st December, 2004 and then for individual years from 2005 to 2011. He will also be presenting several other reports.
Meanwhile, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Ganga Persaud is to respond to A Partnership For National Unity (APNU) Member of Parliament (MP), Joseph Harmon as to who is responsible for an excavator which has been lying on the Wanina Road, North West District for more than one year to be repaired.
MP Valerie Gordon has several questions for Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran pertaining to the Georgetown School of Nursing. The issues which she will be raising are: shortage of tutors, the absence of Clinical Instructors which the New Pilot Curriculum being used by the institution requires, shortage of up-to-date text books, expansion of the library to facilitate the 500 students that attend the school and the need for additional computers.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett is being asked by MP and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly to provide a list of the Heads of each of Guyana’s Foreign Missions along with the period that each Head of Mission has served at his/her current posting.
