THE Thirst Park ground was wet with action yesterday when the 2012 COURTS Pee Wee Schools’ football competition kicked off in fine style as eight exciting games were contested, six of which saw commanding victories. In the opening matchup Marian Academy destroyed St Pius 7-0 then St Margret’s won 3-1 against F.E. Pollard, Tucville blanked St Gabriel’s 5-0, North Georgetown defeated Enterprise 3-0 and Sophia sank Green Acres 6-0.
Redeemer Primary accounted for the other victory, against South Ruimveldt, which ended 2-1 but it was the eventual victors who controlled the better part of the showdown.
Success Elementary drew 1-1 with West Ruimveldt while Ketley Primary and St Sidwell’s played to a 2-2 draw.
Marian Academy’s Diarra Thomas scored three first-half goals and one in the second half and he was supported by Dominic Roberts who scored in the 38th minute. As if it wasn’t tough enough for the opposition, they gifted Marian Academy with two second-half own goals.
St Margret’s 3-1 victory over F.E. Pollard was pushed by Moses Bhagwandey’s double (11th and 13th) scored in the first half with support from his teammate Josiah King who also scored in the first half (17th minute). The opposition, however, drew first blood as early as the second minute compliments of Tion Maynard, but that was not enough to get them a win.
Shamar Dover’s second-half goals, scored in the 22nd and 30th minutes, propelled Redeemer to victory over the South Ruimveldt team who scored in the first half off the boot of Christopher Bovell.
Simeon Hackett’s helmet-trick for Tucville which he completed in the penultimate minute after finding the back of the net in the eighth, 26th and 29th minutes was more than enough to help them get past St Gabriel’s. Hackett’s teammate Thurston Gordon scored a tenth minute goal.
North Georgetown’s three goals which got them the victory were scored by Tyrese Prescott (15th), Owen Williams (23rd) and Joshua Denny (27th).
Finally, Sophia’s victory was engineered by James Freeman who scored a first half hat-trick alongside his teammates Leon Arthur (3rd and 19th) and Quincy Felix (26th).
The competition continues next Saturday at the same venue with another eight games scheduled to be contested.
