UNITED Kingdom ballistics expert Dr. Mark Robinson has said he has no
evidence to allow him to conclude that the shots which caused the deaths of the three Linden protesters had come from police guns.
“There is no evidence to allow me to conclude that the shots which caused the deaths (of the three Linden protesters) came from the police guns.”
He explained that the pellets found in the deceased persons were of the size 0-0, and they were copper-coated, whereas those supplied by the police were of lead, and were 0-0 buck shots.
He explained that the #4 and #6 cartridges supplied by the police were made of lead, as against those found in the three dead persons, which were fired from a long-range shot and not by the Unit Commander ASP Todd, who had shot in a downward motion.
This is not new evidence as it merely confirms what the ballistics experts of the Guyana Police Force had concluded earlier.
However, it is highly pertinent evidence because it has come from an independent non-Guyanese expert and would remove all skepticism that the police experts would have been attempting to cover up for their colleagues.
The intellectual authors and architects of this criminal act must be shivering with this startling revelation which should now free Home Affairs Minister from the allegations against him that he ordered the police to shoot the Linden protesters who had blocked the Wismar Bridge during the so-called protest against proposed hikes in electricity tariffs.
Very importantly, it would be hoped that the revelation from the ballistics expert that the bullets were not fired from police weapons would help to remove the dust from the eyes of the people of Linden and they would realise that they were taken for a ride and used as pawns by power-hungry opposition politicians in their quest for political power.
The people of Linden should also realise that these power-hungry politicians would not stop at anything to further their selfish and narrow political agenda.
The game plan of the political opposition at Linden was clear and straightforward. That is, use the proposed electricity tariff hikes as the springboard or Trojan Horse to work up the people into a frenzy then shoot “their own people” and blame it on the police so as to demonise them and then spread the demonizing campaign across the country with the hope of starting an uprising against the government and ultimately its removal.
This is a similar scenario to how Adolf Hitler Nazis burned the Reichstag building during World War II and blamed it on the communists and using that to jail and persecute them.
During the turbulent 1960s in Guyana, there was a crucial incident in which the circumstances were a bit different but also bore some similarities. This incident occurred when a violent mob surrounded Freedom House and Superintendent McLeod, who was in charge of security operations at the time, was killed by a mysterious bullet.
The government pathologist at the time, Dr Balwant Singh, who was a staunch opponent of the government, flushed the bullet that killed McLeod down the sink thereby removing the main evidence that could have been used to trace the killer.
The similarity here is that the political opposition then was bent on grabbing political power by any means and kept feeding their supporters with regular doses of venom and misinformation to pump them up into a maddening frenzy. The difference is that instead of civilians being killed, a decent and innocent policeman was killed.
However, now that it is abundantly clear that the police were not responsible for the unfortunate death of the three Lindeners, no effort will be spared to bring to justice those who were responsible for this dastardly act.
The people of Linden should also learn their lesson and never allow power-grabbing politicians to use them as pawns in their quest to seize political power and reconsider whether those who misled them are really their political friends or political enemies.
