Rahaman’s Turn accident truck driver undergoes another surgery

RICKY Ranjee, the truck driver who avoided a major smash-up at Rahaman’s Turn, Houston, East Bank Demerara, on September 22, when a car strayed into his path, underwent his third surgical operation yesterday at Georgetown Public Hospital(GPH). He had previously undergone two last week, also for injuries he suffered in the accident when he was trapped inside his vehicle for some time before he was rescued by firefighters.
Relatives said he was operated on yesterday to mend a broken left leg and was moved from the High Dependency Unit (HDU) to the Male Surgical Ward.
Ranjee’s brother, Vishaul told the Guyana Chronicle that his sibling’s limb was fractured in three different places but he is getting better with each passing day and is hoping to fully recover.
As for one of three porters who were also in the heavy duty truck, Devon (only name given) was a patient in the Male Surgical Ward of GPH, too, before he was discharged.
Ranjee, 41, of Lot 120 Regent Road, Bourda, was an experienced driver of many years prior to avoiding the collision when he swerved into a concrete fence at Rahaman’s Turn after the speeding car drove into his lane on that Saturday morning.
At the scene, then, the truck had crashed into the fence of a house that is situated at Rahaman’s Turn just opposite Tent City after taking down the billboards, as well as the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras that were mounted on poles there.
The front of the truck was badly damaged and the car and its driver were taken to the Ruimveldt Police Station to assist with investigations.
Ranjee and others had returned from the interior and were heading to the city when the out of control car overtook another vehicle and drove directly into the path of the truck, GPP 2824, which is attached to Zaman Trucking Service and Auto Mechanic and Spare Parts.
Reports said that the two other occupants managed to escape with less serious injuries and one of them was treated and sent away while another was hospitalised for a few days.
