Man assisting police in making arrest has throat slit

JUST after 20:00hrs on Sunday last, 21-year-old Brian Leanato Sule Assanah of Alberttown, Georgetown had his throat slit by a man who was resisting arrest by Alberttown police at Fourth and Albert Streets, Alberttown, Georgetown. This newspaper was informed that the assailant is known to the police, and had attempted to injure the arresting police rank with the same knife after he had slashed Assanah’s throat.

Lurlene Mingo, mother of the late Assanah, said her son had just had something to eat before leaving the house, informing her that he would have returned in five minutes. Less than five minutes later, his friends informed her that a man had slashed his throat, and that he was left lying on the roadway.
At the crime scene, she noticed her son lying in a pool of blood, and immediately picked him up. The woman said she began to call out for help, and other persons rushed to her assistance, while a passerby transported the injured man to the hospital in his vehicle.

Assanah arrived at the hospital alive, but died while receiving medical attention. His mother said doctors had worked diligently in a futile effort to save his life.
Despite her state of shock and mourning, Ms Mingo acknowledged the doctors’ valiant attempt to save her son from death. She said he would have celebrated his 22nd birth anniversary on Monday, and had been planning to have a grand party on Friday.

He had been the eldest of four children.

When this publication visited the scene of the fatal incident, it was evident that Assanah’s blood had stained the roadway, and there were clots still present on the ground.
