The two-night show attracted some 20,000 people and showcased Essequibo farming and manufacturing activities. Organised by the Regional Administration of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) and the Ministry of Agriculture, under the theme ‘Agriculture and Trade Fair’, as part of Agriculture Month activities, it gathered thousands of Essequibians together on the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground.
Those in attendance viewed local products and produce, interacted with Government Minister Alli Baksh and other top officials and celebrated 20 years of under People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) rule.
On Saturday night, the large colourful crowd inside the ground created an atmosphere of joy, peace, love and togetherness.
At the Ministry of Agriculture booth, officers explained the ‘cold chain link’ for farm produce to many farmers and other persons. Big crowds also filled the main pavilion and stood around the stage area to watch artistes performing live, backed by the Caribbean Hot Shot Band.
BIGGEST SHOW
Many Essequibians said it was the biggest show since it started 10 years ago by the late Minister of Agriculture Satyadeow Sawh.
This year also featured EZJet Airline and Aleya’s Travel Service for the first time and Essequibians had a chance to win free flights to Canada, United States (U.S.) and Trinidad and Tobago, by simply filling applications and putting them in a box for a drawing at the venue.
At the Friday night draw, Mrs. Jenetta Prabhulall won a free return flight to Trinidad and Tobago for seven days.
Many children attending primary and secondary schools also were given free pamphlets at booths.
Saturday night a power failure was experienced just after midnight because of an overloaded system and darkness over the entire ground triggered the end of the showing.
