OCTOBER 9, 1992, was the date when the People’s Progressive Party, under the leadership of Dr. Cheddi Jagan, was sworn in after being declared winner of the first free and fair General and Regional Elections held on October 5, 1992.
To celebrate 20 years of uninterrupted rule, the following activities are planned;
* October 9 – Commemorative ceremony and pictorial display at Guyana International Conference Centre at 15:00hrs;
* October 12 – Reflection on progress & cultural show in Mabaruma, Region 1 at 18:00hrs;
* October 17- Reflection on progress & cultural show in the RDC compound, Region 5 at 14:00hrs;
* October 18- Reflection on progress and cultural show at JC Chandisingh Secondary School, Region 6 at 17:00hrs;
* October 19- Reflection on progress & cultural show in the RDC compound, Region 3 at 14:00hrs and at the RDC square Region 8 at 17:00hrs;
* October 20 – Reflection on progress & cultural show at Freedom House, Region 2 at 19:00hrs, at RDC Compound Region 7 at 17:00hrs, and a reception & cultural show with an address by Prime Minister Samuel Hinds at Watooka House Region 10 at 18:00hrs
* October 28 – Reflection on progress & cultural show at the Amerindian Hostel, Lethem, Region 9 at 17:00hrs.
The month long activities will end with a family fun day at State House, Main Street in the city on October 28.
