GCC host DCC in tomorrow’s GCA/NBS 2nd division final

FOLLOWING their commanding semifinal victories over Police Sports Club and Everest Cricket Club respectively, arch rivals Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) will meet in the final of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/New Building Society (NBS) second division limited overs tournament at the GCC ground at 10:30hrs tomorrow.

Mario Nichols and Montgomery Chester are the two men in charge of this encounter, with Hortence Isaacs as standby. This final promises to be an exciting and enthralling one, as both teams are on the hunt for silverware this season, in Georgetown’s cricketing fraternity.
For the home team, skipper Robin Bacchus and Winston Forrester who added 122 for the first wicket against PSC in the semifinals, will be looking to repeat such, building a platform for players such as Alex Ramalho, Ellon Fernandes, Martin Pestano-Bell and Devon Lord to build on.
Their bowling will be led by Bacchus, Lord, Almando Doman and to some extent Cleyon Critchlow, who is an up-and-coming fast bowler that gets the ball to move both ways off the wicket.
DCC is currently celebrating its centenary Anniversary and having won the GCA’s Under-15 and U-19 titles during last month, will be looking to add this second division title to their list of accolades, especially after missing out on the GCA/Carib Beer/Friends of Cricket/Heroes Cup first division crown.
To that extent, cricket enthusiasts who are expected to throng the venue to witness the day’s action can expect players such as Omesh Danram, Larry Smith, Andrew Gibson, Kemal Savory, Jahron Byron and the veteran players Lyndon Lyght and Dennis ‘Bitterman’ Squires to turn up trumps for the Queenstown-based club.
When they opposed Everest in the semifinals, their fast-bowling duo of national Under-19 fast bowler Dexter George and Cavell Reece weathered an opening burst from 13-year-old Sherfane Rutherford, to send the Camp Street-based club packing for 118 after they were 48 without loss.
No doubt, Lyght will expect this duo to repeat such actions, while Squires and Danram will offer valuable support as they hunt the top prize, which will be handed over along with other individual prizes won during the tournament, at the conclusion of the match.
