Court hears… Woman struck unconscious with pot of hot rice

A MAN, who is alleged to have thrown a pot of hot rice on his pregnant reputed wife, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday.

Rocky Lashley, of Lot 345 Cummings Street Alberttown, Georgetown, was charged with unlawfully assaulting Nakita Collins and using threatening language to her, on September 29, but he pleaded not guilty to the offences.
Police Sergeant Winneth Hubbard, prosecuting, said on the day in question the defendant went home and asked the virtual complainant if she had finished cooking and when she responded in the negative, he became annoyed and emptied the hot contents of the pot on her.
The Prosecutor said Collins fell unconscious and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where she was treated and sent away.
The Prosecutor had no objection to bail but asked that Lashley remove from the address he shares with Collins and he agreed to relocate to his sister’s residence until the case is concluded.
Meantime, he was sent on his own recognisance and the magistrate ordered that the couple seek counselling and return to Court on November 30.
