As new CEO of GWI… Baksh assures customers of improved service delivery

THE Chairman and Board of Directors of Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has welcomed Mr. Shaik Baksh as the new Chief Executive.

altBaksh, who has taken over his official duties, said his immediate focus will be to propel GWI to greater profitability and enhance the quality of service provided to customers countrywide.
“My extensive years in Guyana’s water sector have provided me with unique insight into areas which are currently under performing,” he said, adding that “for GWI to succeed, it must begin implementing tools for increased revenue as well as improving the service which it provides to customers.”
Baksh holds a Bachelor’s and Master ’s degrees in Management Studies, the former having been obtained at the University of Guyana (UG) and the latter from the University of London.
He has had extensive experience in managing business entities, such as Guyana Stores Limited (GSL) where he was once CEO.
He also served as Chairman of the Board of Guyana National Engineering Corporation (GNEC) and contributed significantly to the sustained profitability of Guyana Oil Company (GUYOIL) during his tenure as Chairman of the Board and later Chief Executive.
Baksh previously held the offices of Minister of Housing and Water, from 1998 to 2006 and Minister of Education, from 2006 to 2011.
“I anticipate working with GWI’s vibrant management team and Board of Directors,” he said, assuring customers that, together with his team, they are exploring innovative ways to improve service delivery and enhance the overall efficiency of the nation’s water utility.
A statement said the Chairman, Board of Directors, Management and staff of GWI congratulated Baksh on his appointment and would like to extend best wishes to him.
