Hunte pleased with Under-19 quality

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC)-President of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Julian Hunte has lauded the quality of the just ended WICB Under-19 tournament and says the future of the sport in the region is bright.
The WICB president says he was also impressed by the number of centuries scored as well as the emergence of a number of young fast bowlers.
Shai Hope of Barbados recorded four centuries while Jeremy Solozano of Trinidad and Tobago scored two.
“What we saw on the cricket fields in Barbados over the last four weeks gives us reason to believe the future of cricket is the West Indies is bright,” Hunte said.
“We saw an increase in the number of centuries being scored by the batsmen and we also saw the emergence of a number of young fast bowlers”.
Barbados topped the three-day table with 45.5 points followed by Guyana on 38.0 points and Trinidad and Tobago on 37.0 points.
In the 50-over tournament, Windwards secured the title with 35.0 points, just one ahead of Guyana 34.0 points.
“Reports indicate this was one of the best and closest tournaments we have seen at this level for some time and the players who made it happen deserve our praise,” said Hunte.
“Special congratulations to the teams from Barbados and the Windward Islands who came out on top. Both competitions were decided on the final day and this demonstrated the level of competitiveness among the teams.”
