ACE senior rider Alonso Greaves will lead a strong five-member Roraima Bikers Club (RBC) team to Suriname, where they will compete in that country’s fourth annual Bigi Bergi four-stage cycle road race.
The event will pedal off at 14:00hrs tomorrow, when cyclists who will be representing teams from countries such as Curacao, Holland, British Virgin Islands, United States of America, Suriname and the defending champions French Guiana, will do battle for supremacy in a 95km road race.
The following day, they will compete in a 105km event that pedals off at 09:00hrs, while on Sunday, they will feature in a 10km Time Trial that begins at 0730hrs, which will be followed by a 90km event which pedals off at 1430hrs and will also bring the curtain down on this year’s event.
Greaves will be brimming with confidence for this year’s event, having placed second in the 105km event last year before he took the 90km race and with such cyclists as Alex Mendes, Mario King, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams and Raymond ‘Steely’ Newton in the RBC team, this year, he can be expected to churn out much better results in comparison to last year’s.
Meanwhile, the Guyanese club’s participation was made possible through the kind compliments of Ansa McAl Limited, Marcos Trading of North Road and Caribbean International Distributors Incorporated of McDoom, East Bank Demerara.
The RBC team which departs for Suriname overland today reads: Alonso Greaves, Raymond Newton, Alex Mendes, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams and Mario King, with Brian Allen (manager) and Marlon Humphrey (assistant manager) comprising the technical staff.
