GCA/BRAINSTREET UNDER-15 Tournament – DCC ‘A’ and TSC to meet in tomorrow’s final

FOLLOWING commanding semi-final victories over Queen’s College (QC) and Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) respectively, defending champions Demerara Cricket Club ‘A’ (DCC) and Transport Sports Club (TSC) will meet in the final of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)-organised, Brain Street-sponsored Under-15 competition tomorrow.
In their semifinal matches that were played at the DCC and GYO grounds respectively yesterday, DCC mauled QC by 233 runs, while TSC defeated GYO by 106 at GYO, even though they were forced to fight for the victory by the home team’s last-wicket pair.
At DCC, the home team won the toss and, opting to bat first, rattled up 271 for 9 off their 50 overs, thanks to Clitus Johnson’s 91 that was decorated with four sixes and three fours and received support from Kemo Paul 60 (5×4, 1×6), Tevin Imloch 24 and Carlton Jacques 22.
Shamar Britton, Jayden Mana and Ryan Fung took two wickets each for 35, 48 and 53 runs respectively in the bowling department for QC, who found the bowling of Travis Persaud (3 for 4), Jacques (3 for 13) and Deron Crandon (2 for 18) impossible to negotiate and were bowled out for 38 off 18.3 overs.
Zachary Hamer struck two fours and one six in his topscore of 14 while extras contributed 11 to the Camp Road-based Institution’s total.
At the GYO ground on Woolford Avenue, TSC won the toss and batted first, scoring 256 for 8 from their 50 overs, with Joshua Ram leading the way with 91, in which he struck six sixes and four fours.
He got worthy support from Joshua Wilson 44 (9×4), Reon Sumair 42 (4×4, 3×6) and Ewart Samuels 25 (2×6, 1×4), as TSC made the home team pay for their loose bowling and fielding.
When GYO batted, they were coasting along at 96 for 4, before Sumair who took 3 for 23 and Travis Marcelino, who supported him with 2 for 28, rocked their batting to leave them precariously placed on 104 for 9 in the 31st over.
However, Mark Hamilton who made 18 with two fours and Christopher Campbell 10 (2×4) added an unbeaten and valuable 46 for the final wicket from 19.2 overs to stall TSC’s march to victory and push their team to 150 for 9 at the end of their 50 overs.
Dwayne De Barros who opened the batting for GYO, had earlier struck four fours and two sixes in his 39 while extras contributed a healthy 56 to the Woolford Avenue-based team, who will be forced to witness tomorrow’s final between TSC and DCC ‘A’ which bowls off at 09:30hrs at the GYO ground.
