Linden rebuilding begins satisfactorily -as features of negotiations begin to be implemented

HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat and Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon, Wednesday, at a post- Cabinet press briefing, informed media operatives that major features of the Linden agreement are being put in place with the inputs and support of principal stakeholders. Dr. Luncheon also said that the situation on the ground is evolving satisfactorily, with visibly sustained efforts at the re-establishment of normalcy in the township.
“Cabinet discussed a range of proposals brought by its education sector to deal with the pressing dilemma of relocating the more than 800 displaced primary school children from the burnt out school,” Dr. Luncheon said.
He added that the amounts needed for the procurement and installation of necessities at the temporary site have been contemplated by the ministry, and are currently being quantified.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health is occupied with planning the relocation to maintain the provision of services at alternate locations for those communities that lost their service, which was being provided at the burnt-out Vivian Daniels Health Care facility.
Wednesday evening, government and the Region 10 delegation signed the agreement that was realised by both parties on four areas of concern to the region.
Earlier in the week, Education Minister Priya Manickchand visited the site of the burnt-out One Mile Primary School in Linden and discussed the ministry’s plan with the parents.
Grades 1 and 2 students are to be relocated at One Mile Nursery under a double session plan, and Grades 4 and 5 students will be housed at the Wismar Hill Primary School, whilst Grade 6 classes are to be held at the Block 22 Community Centre.
