FAZIL Mohamed of Friendship Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara allegedly drove his vehicle, PKK 5609, in a dangerous manner, causing the death of his father, Rafeek Mohamed, on August 19, at Land of Cannan, EBD. Yesterday, he appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton and was not required to plea to the indictable charge.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Paul Fung-a-fat represented the accused and requested bail. He informed the court that the deceased was father of the accused, and he was travelling in the said car when tragedy struck.
The lawyer told the court that his client did not commit a crime of violence; his father’s death had been an accident.
The prosecution had no objection to bail, but requested that it be substantial.
Mohamed was placed on $450,000 bail, and the case was set for recall on October 12.
