FOLLOWING the ongoing conflict that has been plaguing Guyana’s cricket from the start of the year, the organisers of this year’s second annual Hits and Jam Masters Cup T20 cricket were forced to cancel same, late yesterday afternoon.
According to a press release sent from the organising committee that is basedin Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, Hits and Jam were in negotiations with their sponsors, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the now defunct Guyana Cricket Board, towards the hosting of this year’s tournament, hoping that an amicable resolution would have been met.
With such being null and void, the Hits and Jam group was forced to cancel this year’s tournament that was scheduled to bowl off this Friday at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, with two semifinal encounters with the winners meeting in Sunday’s final for the US$10,000 first place prize and trophy.
Players in the caliber of talismanic West Indies opener Chris Gayle, allrounders Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Smith along with spinners Suleiman Benn and Sunil Narine, were expected to grace these shores with their presence in the four team tournament, of which Universal DVD Club Berbice Titans were set to defend the title they won last year.

“HITS AND JAM STATEMENT ON MASTERS CUP CRICKET
The Hits and Jams Group regrets to inform cricket fans and the public that it has been forced to postpone the staging of this year’s Master’s Cup Tournament which was scheduled to begin this weekend.
Our decision is as a result of the ongoing conflict which has resulted in all cricket in Guyana not being played.
The Hits and Jams Group which was in negotiation with the WICB and the GCB and all other partners including sponsors was hoping that the issues surrounding the hosting of the Masters Cup Tournament would have been resolved in time for this weekend’s staging of the T20 competition.
Hits and Jams has since informed the International cricketers who were contracted for the tournament of our decision.
HJ remains committed to the growth and development of cricket and all other entertainment and sporting activities in Guyana and we look forward to continue playing our part in that development.
We will continue to work along with the West Indies cricket administrators in the future as we have given our commitment to the hosting of the tournament.”
