One dead, 14 ijured -four air dashed to GPHC -after head on collision between car and minibus at Lima

ONE person is dead and 14 others injured after an overloaded minibus and a speeding car collided head on at around midday Sunday on the Lima Public Road on the Essequibo Coast. Reports said the minibus driven by Vincent Persaud of Charity was heading to Anna Regina when a speeding car driven by Junior Ramroop crashed head on at a bend on the road resulting in both drivers and passengers in the bus  seriously injured. Reena Rajkumar, 34, of Somerset and Berks who was pulled out by residents. The mother of three children sustained injuries to her head, stomach, legs and back. She died while receiving medical attention at the Suddie Hospital. Reena was the cousin of the driver of the ill-fated bus. Most of the passengers were from Charity and some were heading to Lake Mainstay Resort for the Regatta.
Those amongst serious injuries were two-year old Alex Gildery of Charity, Satesh Singh nine years old and seven-year old Ravindra Persaud along with four others who were air dashed to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) with assistance from Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Chairman, Parmanand Persaud who assisted the injured also.
Allan Gildery and his wife Clair Benjamin were heading to the hospital to see their sick father when they met the accident.
Both of Benjamin’s feet are seriously injured along with his arm and chest.
Reena Rajkumar’s mother and relatives who were at the hospital were crying bitterly. Many other persons gathered at the hospital also. Conductor of the bus Amar Persaud also received injuries to his body. At the scene of the crash many persons gathered and police quickly removed the two damaged vehicles to the Anna Regina Police Station. Police are conducting investigations.
