THE inaugural Red Cherry Chess tournament concludes today when the four top players collide in what is expected to be a day of keen battles, which gets underway at 10:00 hrs today at the Camp Street Avenue between Lamaha and New Market Streets. After the six preliminary rounds Taffin Khan, Kriskal Persaud, Ronuel Greenidge and Anthony Drayton were confirmed as the top four players.
The outdoor venue would be one of the main highlights of the fast paced competition which began in July.
Kei-Shar’s Sports Club was the venue for the final preliminary round where Senior National Champion Taffin Khan took the first place trophy, a cash prize and a Red Cherry voucher while Anthony Drayton copped second. Kriskal Persaud came in third.
The total accumulated points of the top four after the six preliminary rounds read: Taffin Khan 94, Kriskal Persaud 77, Ronuel Greenidge 76 and Anthony Drayton 68. However, the points gained in the preliminary rounds would not be added in the finals on Saturday.
The first place winner of the playoffs will receive $50 000 cash plus $50 000 in Red Cherry vouchers, second place winner gets $10 000 cash plus $15 000 worth in Red Cherry vouchers, the third place winner gets $5 000 cash plus $10 000 Red Cherry vouchers and the fourth place winner gets a Red Cherry voucher worth $5 000.
In addition, the top four will each receive a trophy.
