GENERAL Manager of Transport and Harbours Department, Ms Marclene Merchant, has reported that rehabilitation works to the northern section of the Stabroek Stelling was completed on Monday last. Merchant explained that the recent damage to the structure came as a result of multiple moorings during the period the Demerara Harbour Bridge was out of operation last month.
“After it was brought to our attention… a maintenance team was dispatched to execute works…works commenced on Friday, August 3 and concluded on Monday, August 6,” Merchant explained.
The T&HD department has been constantly executing rehabilitation works to both the Vreed-en-Hoop and Stabroek Stellings; however, the constant mooring of passenger boats on the timber structures has, over time, resulted in deterioration.
