Blyden enjoying another season in Canada

FOLLOWING another successful season in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) where he first represented Rousillac United and later Evergreen Cricket Clubs respectively, Guyana’s Travis Blyden is enjoying his second season in Canada. Speaking with Chronicle Sport, the 23 year old Blyden said he is enjoying his game at the moment, especially the condition which is totally different from what he is accustomed to, especially both at home and in T&T.
“Sometimes the place can be chilly, while the pitches are of uneven bounce at times. After scoring some runs for my team last year when i joined them in the middle of the season, I got recalled to play again this year.
It is really competitive here, as we play against players from all over the world, while the games are very competitive and at the same time, it is a privilege playing against some teams who have players that once played in the Indian Premier League (IPL)” said Blyden.
While playing his first season for Evergreen in T&T this year after moving from Rousillac United, Blyden aggregated 589 runs with five half centuries and a top score of 77, while he took 15 wickets with his best figures being 3 for 20, which enabled Evergreen to finish third in the T&T League.
Moving over to Canada where he is competing with Civic Cricket Club in the Canadian Premier League, a confident looking Blyden who plays for the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on local soil has so far played seven games and scored 327 runs with a highest score of 94.
He has also taken four wickets to date, and while he is not being deterred by the meager returns with the ball, his scores with the bat which reads 68*, 58, 94, 44, 47, 11 and 5 enable him to maintain a place in the team.
He also has former national fast bowler Trevon Garraway and Georgetown Cricket Club’s Gavin Singh as his teammates, with Singh chalking up an unbeaten 118 in one of the games, while Garraway, who also plays for GDF, took 5 for 20 in one match against West Indian Sports Club.
