Wills is new Demerara Volleyball Association president

FORMER national volleyball player, administrator and local club coach of Castrol Strikers Volleyball Club Ian Wills has been elected president of the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA). The elections were held yesterday at the Allied Arts Division; Queen’s College Compound and saw representatives from the affiliated clubs in Demerara Volleyball Association and officials of the Guyana Volleyball Federation.
Others elected to the new executive are outgoing president Dwayne Scott as Vice President, while the vacant position of Secretary was not filled. Kevin Vieira of Young Achievers Volleyball Club is the new treasurer.
Ms. Damone Younge, will serve as the Assistant Secretary/ Treasurer while the new Public Relations Officer is freelance sports journalist Mark Bradford.
The executives’ first task will be a special constitution reform session where they will review and make recommendations to the existing constitution.
Overseeing yesterday’s election process were president and secretary of the Guyana Volleyball Federation, Lenny Shuffler and Nicholas Fraser.
Shuffler congratulated the newly elected body and charged them to strive for the development of the game in Demerara as he noted that there are at the moment two registered volleyball clubs in the association and the need for the regularisation of the others should be a high point for the new body.
He urged them to be professionals and to organise their activities in accordance to the GVF and the sister Berbice Volleyball Association.
The new president of the DVA s in his welcome address congratulated those present for electing him to lead the Association. He expressed his passion for the sport and pledged to develop the DVA.
He urged the support of the others elected to work as a team for the success of the sport
Demerara Volleyball Association executives will meet shortly to charter a new course.
