THE African Culture and Education Association (ACEA) on Essequibo Coast has planned several activities for Emancipation celebrations in Region Two (Pomerooon/Supenaam). Chairperson of the organisation, which is based at Lot 30 Henrietta Housing Scheme, Ms. Desiree Charles said the programme is themed ‘People of African Descent – Let’s honour the differences and appreciate the mix, so we can be in harmony.’
She said the events began on July 18 with a quiz at ACEA headquarters, continued on July 23 when youths interacted and carried out a clean-up exercise around Damon Square at Anna Regina.
Charles said, on July 31, a candlelight parade will be staged, beginning at 20:30 hrs, from Damon’s Cross at La Belle Alliance to Damon Square, Anna Regina Car Park.
From 21:45 hrs, a concert will be held at the same park, featuring Africa drumming, singing, dramatic poetry and dancing, after which a libation service will take place at midnight near the Damon Monument.
Charles said Emancipation Day, Monday, August 1 will start off with a church service.
