RESIDENTS of Durban Street, Lodge and other surrounding areas are thankful to the Ministry of Health and the management of the Winners’ Cathedral for taking a health outreach, a collaborative initiative between the Ministry and the Cathedral, to their community. Health Minister Dr. Bheri Ramsaran in an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA) at the outreach at the Winners’ Cathedral said that the Ministry has been partnering with stakeholders, including community groups, corporate bodies and the religious community in promoting healthier lifestyles through medical outreaches and community programmes.
Dr Ramsaran also used the opportunity to interact with the residents, health workers and members of the cathedral and informed the gathering of the many training opportunities being offered by the Ministry of Health, including Dental technician, Dentex, Nursing and Nurse Aide.
He committed to the partnership with stakeholders to have medical outreaches taken to other parts of the country.
“Without this type of interaction the Ministry of Health cannot do….because the religious community and the other stakeholders are mobilisers within the communities,” Minister Ramsaran said.
These programmes, he said are being done so as to lessen the burden on hospitals and health centers in the various Regions and communities.
The Ministry’s outreach, he said has a many faceted effect, since they are able to share other types of information regarding healthier and safer lifestyles.
Head of the Cathedral, and Minister within the Ministry of Finance Bishop Juan Edghill said he was pleased with the overwhelming support of the residents and members of the church.
“Today’s activity is part of a wider programme of the Winners’ cathedral…this year we have been placing quite a lot of emphasis on our community, bringing information to them on various topics, including economic opportunities and anger management.”
The church, he said will be rolling out other programmes and projects in the community in coming weeks.
The church has not been only been dealing with the spiritual upliftment but, other providing humanitarian services to the community including educational pursuits for youths and support for the less vulnerable.
During the outreach, residents were exposed to a range of medical services, including Glucose, Hypertension, VIA and HIV/AIDS testing, eye examination, general medical checkup and dental services.
Scores of persons also used the opportunity to donate blood.
The Ministry of Health will continue its medical outreach programme across the country, with its next stop at Enmore on Sunday, July 15.
