ON Saturday night more than 11 persons, including, a nurse was injured when a speeding and out of control bus slammed into a parked truck on the Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara. The accident occurred shortly after 20.00 hrs when the minibus, which was heading to the city, collided head-on into the back of the stationery truck.
Passengers said that the speeding bus got pinned at the rear of the truck.
Two persons who were in the front seat were also pinned and were only released when public spirited citizens pulled forward the mangled front of the bus.
Among the injured: Sister Hoodith of Melanie Damishana whose hip was broken. She is a patient at the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The others are Sunil Dutt Singh, 37, of Strathspey, East Coast Demerara; Loretta Wilson of Phoenix Road, Leguan; Kevin Barnwell,17 of South Haslington; Kwesi Daniels,18, of Eastville, Annandale, 29-year old Tetwayne Burgess, Kevin Balram, Mohippa Mohan,25, Glendon Grandison, Allias English and Nigel Elias.
Most of those injured and were in obvious pain after the accident was transported to the GPHC by a bus and an ambulance for medical attention.
Up to press time, all the injured were still patients at the GPHC.
