P&P Insurance Brokers Tennis Camp starts Monday

THE ANNUAL P&P Insurance Brokers Tennis Camp which is sanctioned by the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) is geared to commence the 2012 edition on Monday at the Pegasus Hotel Lawn Tennis Court. This event features high on the GLTA’s Activity calendar since its reestablishment nine years ago in 2004 when it was determined that more juniors need to be exposed to the sport through a fun activity before they join a tennis club for further development.
Managing Director of P&P Bish Panday, who has sponsored this event since 2005, is passionate about sport as a developmental tool for young children and he has pledged his continuous support for annual camps such as these.
He continues to show his appreciation for the quality of the activities camp as well as the large number of children who participate and are able to play tennis and compete at the conclusion of the camp.
Each year there is an average of 60 – 80 children who participate and many find themselves continuing to play the sport. Most of the advanced junior players currently at the top of their game were once participants in this event.
They have all developed their game initially through the Park Players Tennis Club which took full advantage of this activity from the outset under the guidance of former National coach Debbie Bunbury and National coach Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan.
The Park Players Tennis Club, along with the Non Pariel and Roraima Tennis Clubs are all currently operating out of the Racquet Centre at Woolford Avenue and Camp Streets. Other clubs with budding junior programmes are Le Resouvenir Tennis Club and Diamond Tennis Club.
The camp is geared for children aged six to 18 years on weekdays for two weeks from Monday July 9 to Friday July 20.
Play time is scheduled for 09:00hrs to 11:00hrs for children six to eleven years and 12:00hrs to 14:00hrs for participants 12 to 18 years. Camp fee per child is $3 000 for the two-week period.
Registration is being done by telephone by contacting 642-5672 or 643-4423.
All parents are asked to be present to complete registration with fees at 08:00hrs on Monday, July 9, so that the Opening Ceremony for the Camp can start on schedule at 08:30hrs.
