THE Department of Education in Berbice is continuing investigations into an explosion which occurred within the male sanitary block of J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School last week. An educator, who spoke to the Guyana Chronicle on condition of anonymity, said 11 students, accompanied by their parents, are assisting police at Rose Hall Town Outpost with the probe.
The incident took place during the morning sessions of June 26, when a loud explosive sound was heard and, on being investigated, was found to have originated in the males toilet.
A closer inspection revealed that pieces of mosquito coils had been lit and wrapped around the ‘Thunder King’ firecrackers, resulting in the paper cylinder exploding.
The informant expressed concern over the safety of the children and wondered about the result if someone was using the facility at the time.
The fourth formers who, usually, access the block were questioned but they disclaimed knowledge of who may have executed the act.
Consequently, their parents were informed and decided to accompany the students to the police station where the investigations are continuing.
