ONE letter writer opined that the utterances of the AFC are increasingly sounding like those of the PNC; but leopards do not change their spots, and one wonders how Khemraj Ramjattan and Moses Nagamootoo, who were once victims of PNC machinations, feel about this equation, given that the co-leader of their fledgling party was once part of a partnership that shouted “slo’ fiah, mo’ fiah,” as Georgetown burnt and innocent Guyanese, many of them young children, were molested, robbed and/or injured.
How far are “Prak,” as people in the PPP who are still fond of him call him, and Moses prepared to compromise in order to save face, because those who know them cannot fathom how they can be comfortable in their new skins.
Many persons in the People’s Progressive Party, especially those who grew up as cadres under Dr. Cheddi Jagan’s guidance, as “Prak” and Moses did, are uncompromisingly patriotic, always putting the nation first; then how could these two be comfortable with this overt attempt to derail Guyana’s developmental trajectory by subverting the position of the President and the constructive national systems, and the continuum of criticisms about our failings as a nation when we need genuine partnership to continue the progress begun and facilitated under successive PPP/C administrations.
Why should President Donald Ramotar’s pursuit of expanded opportunities to boost our economy be of any threat to our established relationships within the private sector?
And why should someone who portends to be a national leader want to undermine the relations Guyana currently enjoys with the International Funding Agencies (IFAs) and foreign investors by creating doubts on the intentions of the President of Guyana, and officials of the government when the repercussions could reverberate to create disturbances in our national economy?
Ambition is a wonderful thing if it drives self-development and service to humankind. Ambitions that drive actions that can create strife on one’s country and disrespect to the citizens of one’s country, no matter how vulnerable and underdeveloped the country is, borders on the traitorous – and can even assume treasonous proportions.
From being a respected freedom fighter in this country, Moses Nagamootoo has allowed his ambition to guide him into dangerous and destructive waters that are highly inimical to the general good of the country.
Khemraj Ramjattan is no different, for he is bent on delivering Guyana once more into the hands of those who once destroyed this country.
One wonders how this duo can equate the country as it is today with what the PPP/C administration inherited in 1992.
And one also wonders what is the criteria they use to determine that their new-found buddies in the PNC/APNU are better administrative prospects than their former comrades.
History will judge them harshly, as it did Peter D’Aguiar.
