ONCE again, Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club’s (CWCC) Robin Persaud rode another tactical race around the inner circuit of the National Park, to cart off the feature event in the Banks DIH Malta Supreme race yesterday. He out-sprinted the unattached Jude Bentley and his club mate Raynauth Jeffrey, to take the Schoolboys and Invitational 35-lap event in a time of 1.20:05secs, with Albert Philander, Sean Alves and Enzo Matthews completing the top six positions.
The pace of the race which had several prominent cyclists in Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams, Raul Leal and Junior Niles among others competing for supremacy, saw the top three break away and hold a lead that was close to 90 seconds over the peloton.
The day’s event got under way with the BMX Boys 6-9 event, which saw Isaiah Sahadeo come out on top over Christopher Goran and Ken Sahadeo respectively. Next to follow was the 9 to 12 category that was won by Britton John from Jamal Arthur and Keon Harris in that order.
The BMX 12 to 14 event was won by Jason Jordan with Yusif Latif and Deeraj Ghabarran placing second and third, before Naomi Singh took the 12 to 14 Boys and Girls Open event from Marica Dick and Alfie Sonaram respectively.
Kennard Lovell took the Veterans Under-50 race from Shameer Baksh and overseas-based Guyanese Jonathan Creavalle; Virgil Jones the Over-50 from Lance Rose and Wilfred Thom; and Maurice Fagundes the Over-60 category from Harry Lall and Krishna Singh in that order.
Before Persaud captured the feature event, Alanzo Ambrose won the Juvenile 10-lap race from Christopher Hochan and Leal, who took one sprint prize in the feature event, with Jeffrey (1), Persaud (2) and Bentley (4).
The cyclists will turn their attention to the carriageway of the West Coast Demerara today, when they compete in the Seven Seas/Dr Chase’s 50-mile road race, which pedals off from the Wales Police Station at 09:00hrs.
