Death of Randy Morris…

Randy Morris rented getaway car
– accomplice and car owner in custody
THE Guyana Police Force said the vehicle that was used as the getaway car by accused serial robber Randy Morris and his now captured accomplice was rented from another man.
The police have also confirmed that the Toyota Raum bore the correct number plate, PPP 962.
Yesterday the Police Public Relations Officer said that the owner of the motor car has since been taken into custody, where he is assisting with investigations. The man told investigators that the vehicle was rented from him by Randy Morris.
Meanwhile, 28-year-old Trayon Moore of Durban Street continues to be in police custody, and is expected to shortly be charged with several offences, including robbery-under-arms.
On Saturday last, Randy Morris and his accomplice Trayon Moore led dozens of police on a high-speed chase through several city streets. The chase ended in Queenstown, Georgetown. The chase followed a failed robbery attempt by the two on a Bourda Market vendor whom they beat unconscious. It was in their bid to escape the busy shopping area that they were spotted by the police, who followed them; and that led to the high-drama chase.
Despite causing damage to persons’ vehicles, and driving up Church Street against oncoming traffic, the police caught up with the car. It was then that Morris exited the car while it was still moving, and decided to make a dash for freedom before running into the arms of the police.
His accomplice Moore decided that he wanted to live a little longer, and surrendered to the police by exiting the car and putting his hands in the air. He was arrested and whisked away by the police.
Unfortunately, Randy Morris, who ran into the arms of the police, refused to get into the back of a police pick up, and began assaulting police officers who attempted to arrest him. At one point he held on to a rank and refused to loose the man, causing the rank to end up in a nearby drain in Queenstown. It was his continued resistance and his actions that threatened the lives of the arresting ranks that caused him to be shot several times about the body. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
At the hospital, his family members launched a scathing verbal attack on the media and the police. The media were accused of reporting things about Randy Morris that were not factual, including that he was allegedly involved in several robberies in and around Georgetown.
The police, on the other hand, were accused of gunning down the man without a reason, and one aunt accused the Guyana Police Force of being out to get her nephew. She clearly refused to acknowledge that her nephew was positively identified as the robber in several cases for which he showed up in court to answer.
