Pouderoyen shock Den Amstel

LAST weekend matches in the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA)-organised Stag Beer Super League competition saw Den Amstel suffer a shock 3-2 defeat to newcomers Pouderoyen, at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground Saturday afternoon. That same day, Uitvlugt Warriors inflicted a 7-1 drubbing on Wales United while on Sunday Stewartville secured their first victory when they defeated Beavers 3-1, while Eagles clawed Bagotville 3-0.
League leaders Den Amstel were given their first shocker of the year when they were defeated by Pouderoyen Young Achievers 2-3 with the Achievers’ goals from Marvin Josiah 3rd minute, Dellon Millington 19th, and Dextroy Adams 73rd minute while the home side’s goals came from Jeffrey Pereira 50th, and ace forward Andre Hector in the 63rd minutes.
Uitvlugt Warriors mauled Wales United winning 7-1, with the score sheet reading Dellon Lanferman 2nd, Dellroy Johnson 18th, Kester Albert 21st, Jamaal Petty 26th, Corneil Johnson 58th, and Ceon Bobb 60th minutes while the lone goal for Wales came off the boot of Quasi Alleyne in the 56th minute.
After losing their first two matches, Stewartville returned with a new flair that saw them command more possession of the ball when they attacked, forcing the Beavers who are accustomed to being the enforcers, to go on the defensive.
Orette Stephenson opened the scoring for the Stewartville side in the 17th minute from a flat shot outside the penalty area to beat the Beavers custodian on the wet grass.
Former national youth player Anthony Harding then lifted his Beavers lineup when he equalised in the 47th minute after  his team went into the break a goal down, following which a keen contest ensued as both teams pressed for possession of the ball in search of the lead.
Veteran Owen McGarrell then converted to send the Stewartville side into the lead in the 57th minute and one minute later, a defensive error by Marvin Henry saw the ball end up in the back of Beavers’ goal, handing Stewartville a two-goal cushion.
Eagles returned with more purpose and showed improvement over the period of the league as they demonstrated their skill in moving the ball through the third of the field.
Anthony Nicholson doubled with goals in the 26th and 53rd minutes with support from Haines Caines in the 54th minute securing a 3-0 victory.
In action this weekend on Saturday at 14:00hrs Bagotville will face Wales and at 16:00hrs Seawall meet Eagles.
On Sunday at 14:00hrs Stewartville match skills with Pouderoyen Young Achievers and the supporting game will see Uitvlugt and Beavers do battle.
