The President must insist on accountability from all

THE report that the President has asked Mr. Jagdeo to help prepare a report on the status of major investments is not only welcome but necessary.  Hopefully, the report will cover all major contracts as well, with information on progress and expected results and returns. The President must have updated reports on all projects, their progress, any problems and suggested solutions or corrective actions. No President should read of problems in government from the newspapers before hearing them from his ministers.

Mr. Ramotar must act solely as the President of the nation first, regardless of his role in the party. His ministers must be told this by him and understood by all.  He must lead the way in addressing and finding common ground with oppositions demands, while resisting unreasonable or harmful demands against the nation’s best interests. He must be seen to lead the way towards transparency, accountability, equality and competency in governance and not just reacting to them, regardless of the source.
Officials must first investigate charges, refute them fully or acknowledge their validity and correct them, before dismissing them out of hand.  The President must insist on accountability from all.
