Judge, jury & witnesses brave heavy rainfall to visit murder scene
JUSTICE Roxanne George, jury and witnesses, & police in the Kwasi Wilson murder trial disregarded heavy downpours of rain yesterday to visit the locus-in-quo (scene of the crime), where witnesses pointed out houses and told about the night when 23-year-old Kwasi Wilson was stabbed to death following a scuffle that ensued after an argument. Curious residents in the area of David Street and Railway Line, Kitty braved the weather to see the court officials, some with umbrellas and raincoats, at the scene, which was transformed into a court scene that lasted for nearly an hour.
Upon leaving the scene, the judge and party returned to the High Court at the Demerara Assizes, where the Judge adjourned the hearing to today to permit the soaked jurors to go home and change their clothing.
This morning the witnesses who testified at the scene yesterday will give their evidence from the witness box, led by prosecutors Retina Singh and Konyo Sandiford.
They would then be subjected to cross-examination by veteran defence counsel Mr. Compton Richardson.
According to the prosecution that has so far been led, at the time of the alleged murder the deceased Kwasi Wilson had been only 26 years of age. He had been no stranger to the accused Eon Williams, called ‘Georgie’. The deceased and the accused had been friends for a number of years.
It is alleged that between the 9th and 10th day of April, 2007, the accused murdered Kwasi Wilson, called ‘Kwesi’
According to the evidence, on the evening of the 9th of April, 2007, the accused, the deceased and one Jermaine were at the home of another friend, Kurt Lachish, at 11 Railway Line, Kitty.
There, at about 10.30 p.m. the deceased and the accused got into an argument about the death of Clifton Garraway. The deceased was seen taking out a knife from his waist. They were pushing and tugging at each other. The accused eventually got cut on his hands, and threw the knife on the ground. The deceased then went into Kurt’s house, and the accused followed him. They again started to fight; Kurt parted them and told them that if they wanted to fight, they would have to leave his home. They both left at 11.45 p.m.
Shondelle Wilson is the sister of the deceased. She said that on the 9th of April, at about 11 p.m., she was at home in her bedroom at Sandy Babb Street Kitty when she heard loud talking from outside on the road to her yard. She recognized the voice of the deceased. She peeped through the bedroom window and saw the accused, whom she had known for a number of years, and the deceased standing close together. She left her room and went to open her front door. At that time, she saw the accused running and Kwasi came into the yard holding his tummy. His intestines were protruding.
Kwasi was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
