Due to shortfall in availability…

Licences being granted for short-term poultry imports
HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon announced, Thursday, that Cabinet has agreed to grant short-term licences to import, due to the coastland shortage of poultry on the local market.
He said it has happened because Cabinet learnt of the hike in prices attributed to a significant shortfall in availability in the retail sector.
Luncheon said Cabinet was advised that the situation was caused by the shift to hinterland regions, which were flooded and that was mooted for the reduction of the availability on the coastland and led to price increases.
He said, consequently, Cabinet consented to the immediate short- term licensing, for importers to bring in supplies and alleviate the impact of the inadequacy.
Up to Thursday, on the retail market in Georgetown and its environs, a pound of chicken was being sold for between $360 and $400.
