RDC urged to upgrade rice growing areas roads
PEOPLE’S Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) member of the Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Mr. Farouk Khan has called for the roadways in rice growing areas on Essequibo Coast to be upgraded into all weather roads, so as to avoid mud being dumped by tractors on the public thoroughfare. He made the call at the Tuesday RDC meeting in the Anna Regina boardroom, pointing out that the dumping of mud poses a traffic hazard and can cause serious accidents in which innocent lives can be lost.
The former Member of Parliament (MP) said there are enough concrete culverts and regulators, for drainage and irrigation purposes in the rice cultivation locations, so the Region’s Capital Programme can be utilised for what he proposed.
Khan cited Sparta, Windsor Castle and Somerset and Berks as places where mud is constantly deposited on the public road during the preparation of rice fields for sowing.
