Moruca sub-region to get car park, market tarmac with 3 sanitary blocks, costing $34.6M

THE MORUCA sub-region in Region One (Barima/Waini)is expected to see, within the next two months, establishment of a Gy$34.6M car park and market tarmac, as well as three sanitary blocks. Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Norman Whittaker, made this disclosure last Thursday when he visited the area, along with Permanent Secretary, Collin Croal and other regional officials.
Speaking with reporters, Whittaker explained that the tarmac stands to benefit the Moruca sub-region and other locations such as Pomeroon, Charity, and Mabaruma. The Moruca sub-region alone would see in excess of 7000 beneficiaries.
The tarmac would see the regularization of vending, as this activity currently is taking place “all over the road sides.” It would also help to curb the issues surrounding the steady increase of vehicles in the area.
Formerly, the sub-region had only about two vehicles, but reports to the minister indicate that there are now over 20.
In addition to the car park and market tarmac, three sanitary blocks, consisting of washrooms and urinals, will soon be installed.
